INDIA AND THE LUSOPHONE MARKET - INTERNATIONAL CONGRESS

The Lusophone Society of Goa (LSG) in collaboration with the IdEA – Institute of Asian Studies and the AAPI – Friendship Association Portugal-India organises the  International Congress "India and the Lusophone Market" on January 14 and 15, 2014 in Goa, India, focusing on India and the market of the Portuguese-speaking countries.

The Congress as a global meeting marks a step forward in the deepening of the economical relationships between India and the Portuguese speaking Countries.

Portuguese is a major language in the world. With close to 250 millions speakers, it is the fifth most spoken language in the world and an official language in eight countries across four continents, of which six are in Africa (Angola, Mozambique, Guinea Bissau, Cape Verde and São Tome and Principe) and one each in Europe (Portugal), South America (Brazil) and Asia (Timor-Leste). It also remains an official language in Macau.

This Congress will be of particular Interest for entrepreneurs of Portuguese-speaking countries and of India, to come to know the real possibilities of exchange of goods and services. From the Indian side, the conference expects participation of Indian businessmen from all over India.

India is making notable advances in many fields such as information technology, pharmaceuticals, medical tourism, industrial products, transport, electronic equipments, etc., requiring, on the other hand, import of varied goods and services such as agricultural products, minerals, fuels, building materials, etc.

On the other side, the Portuguese-speaking countries, which represent a diversified market of 250 million people, with minerals, oil and agricultural resources and technologies represent an immense platform where entrepreneur with their initiatives and experiences can interact to give the best to their co-citizens.

While trade and investment relations between India and Lusophone Countries have helped the two sides in their socio-economic capacity building, it has, in view of global trends, become imperative to build upon the positive achievements and support each other in becoming more self-reliant and economically vibrant.

The Lusophone Society of Goa presents through this Congress an ideal platform to take forward this agenda between India and the Lusophone countries.
